Martia AI

Lead UX Designer

Martia is a large language model designed to predict potential school violence incidents in advance so they can be prevented. It also provides key insights that guide preventative action. This project was developed in collaboration with No School Violence, whose database highlighted the need for this AI tool. This non-profit aims to reduce school violence by giving parents, teachers, and counselors the proper tools to identify the warning signs.

Personal Insights

My Contributions

My responsibilities in this project were centered around ensuring the most seamless flow possible throughout the experience. I created the initial wireframe and prototype for user testing. In the final iteration, I designed the homepage, AI chatbox, the graph of key indicators- the colored circle, on the results page, and the functional animations on these pages. Throughout the process, I planned and strategized with Katana and Collin- my talented teammates. Collin handled the user research for the project while Katana oversaw each step and ensured the final was ready for launch while also handling the illustrations and logos.

Results & Impact

With contributions from my team and myself, we designed an interface that, according to our final user testing, felt intuitive and familiar to users. The colors and user flow were thoughtfully designed to support parents, teachers, and counselors navigating the high-anxiety uncertainty of a potential school violence threat. Our goal was to provide a sense of reassurance in these critical moments.

Reflections & Takeaways

When I started this project, I had limited experience with prototyping tools and best practices. Learning these tools while working under tight deadlines was challenging, which led to a weak initial iteration. However, user testing helped me identify areas where the design was confusing or unintuitive. With these insights, I refined the prototype to better meet user needs. Presenting the final version was a proud moment, as it demonstrated not only my growth in prototyping but also my ability to justify UX decisions through research-backed reasoning.
